Q: Tell us about when you became a Christian.
PB: Sure thing! I was raised in a Christian family and I remember praying for Jesus to come into my life when I was about 5 years old. Then when I was 13 years old, for some reason I had an uncommon desire to live a life of meaning. Ha ha, I know it’s probably a strange thing for a 13-year-old to be passionate about, but that led to me recommitting my life to Jesus again.
Q: What made you decide to become a pastor?
PB Honestly, there are a couple different things. One is that desire to live a life of meaning that I was telling you about. But, additionally, I really started to love God the more and more I learned about Him in Bible college. Everything that Jesus said and did and promised to do began to stir my heart in a deep way. During that time I started devouring the Bible – I couldn’t get enough. Everywhere I would go I’d be sharing my faith with people I’d meet. Eventually, a church asked me to lead their youth outreach department and the head pastor (Ken Hart) offered to be my mentor. I learned so much about life and ministry from observing Pastor Ken while on his staff during those years.
Q: What would you say is the best part of becoming a pastor?
PB: A big part of it is being able to help people grow in Christ and being able to encourage them in their life. I’m so honored to be able to have the opportunity to help people apply the scriptures to their life and equip them to move beyond the areas of their life where they’ve gotten stuck or off track.
Q: How did you come to the Gathering Place Church?
PB: Okay, this could be a long answer, but I’ll try to keep it concise. I was pastoring a church in Long Beach California when the founding pastor of The Gathering Place sought me out because he believed I was the right person to be the next lead pastor of this church. My wife and I weren’t looking for a different church position or anything – but we began to pray about it. Soon we sensed God was leading us to come here. So, here we are.
Q: You mentioned your wife, can you tell us a bit about your family?
PB: Yea, so Rebekah and I have been married for over 10 years now. Our first daughter, Bella was born a little over four years ago. And then, a couple of years ago we had our second daughter, Selah. So currently our house if filled with princess toys and dolls and that kind of stuff.
Q: Do you have any hobbies?
PB: Well I have a few skateboards and a snowboard, and anytime I get to ride them is still a thrill to me. I started skateboarding when I was 14 years and I still love it! But mainly what I do in my downtime is play with my kids – they’re hilarious and always get me laughing.
Q: One last question, what do you love about the Gathering Place Church?
PB: There is a lot of things I love about this church – one of my favorite things is that the people are sincere in their desire to know God. The people are real, does that makes sense? They’re approachable and down to earth. I believe this church is a safe place for my children to grow in their knowledge and love for God. Really, I just believe this church is a great place for people to experience all that Jesus is and does - and I want everyone to be a part of it.
